Deliberations of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Body on the Zero draft of the WHO Pandemic Treaty
5-7th December. WHO WEBSITE and WEBCAST
IBFAN and public health Civil Society partners and some Member States are worried that the Zero Draft fails to contain adequate safeguards to prevent the private sector from influencing policy setting and exploiting future pandemics. On behalf of IBFAN I made a short intervention explaining how for over 40 years we have worked with WHO to ensure parents get sound unbiased information on how to feed their children. I used the example of baby food companies exploitation of COVID19 to illustrate the risks of unclear terminology and the need to protect monitoring and policy setting from commercial influence.
To help strengthen the draft please read and share these two important documents with country delegates:

Negotiating a WHO Pandemic Treaty by Taking a Public Private Partnership Approach?   Open Letter  signed by IBFAN and many other concerned NGOs and networks.
