Baby Milk Action is seeking new Directors
Join us as a director and help make a difference to babies’ lives across the world
Baby Milk Action is a non-profit organisation founded in 1978. It is the UK member of the International Baby Foods Action Network (IBFAN) that works to uphold and monitor compliance with the 1981 WHO/UNICEF International Code on the Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes. As a result of our advocacy, alongside WHO, UNICEF and partners, we have prompted and strengthened marketing and transparency legislation in the UK, the EU and many other countries. Today 70% of governments have adopted at least some legislation based on this Code. When laws are strong and properly implemented and monitored, babies and their families – whether breast or bottle feeding – are protected from harmful marketing. Baby Milk Action has a small but dedicated Board which is supported by a group of advisers.
We are looking to appoint an individual who will bring passion and commitment, as well as skills and experience, to our Board. Directors play an active role in governing the organisation and are responsible for setting vision, strategic priorities, and for ensuring that we comply with all relevant legal and financial requirements. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to develop their own skills and experience, while at the same time support an organisation that contributes to making a safer, healthier environment for parents and babies on a global scale.
We are currently seeking candidates sympathetic to our mission, and particularly with professional experience in either international development, UK and global health policy, organisational governance, accounting or fundraising, to join our Board.
The Board meets at least four times a year: either in Cambridge or virtually. In between, we communicate regularly by email and telephone, contributing to projects as necessary and appropriate. The positions are not paid, but reasonable expenses can be reimbursed.
If you have any questions, we can arrange an informal discussion regarding the role – please email info@babymilkaction.org.
To apply please submit an up to date CV (including two referees) and covering letter to info@babymilkaction.org.
