The media screening of the hotly anticipated feature film Tigers, the baby milk drama by Oscar-winning director Danis Tanovic, took place today. The first review has just been published in Hollywood Reporter, which says:

“Writer-director Danis Tanovich explores the power of multinationals, the media and ethics in a finely crafted true-life story.”

This fact-based film exposes the tactics used by the baby milk industry to push formula and is not afraid of naming names. The company at its core is Nestlé. The character called Ayan is based on a real-life salesman who Baby Milk Action and our partners in the International Baby Food Action Network (IBFAN) worked with closely during the events depicted in the film and since.

We are represented in the film as the organisation Ayan turns to when he is threatened (described as ‘an NGO connected to the World Health Organisation’ in the Hollywood Reporter review).

The film also explores the challenges the filmmakers faced in obtaining backing for a film exposing corporate malpractice.

Read the review for further details. We’ll be telling more about the film in the coming days.

Tomorrow is the world premiere to be attended by the stars Emraan Hashmi and Geetanjali Thapa.
