How can you help to stop the unethical marketing of baby milks? Click here for our on-line Virtual Shop.

Baby Milk Action is an independent non-profit organisation which aims to save infant lives and to end the avoidable suffering caused by inappropriate infant feeding.

Without our members we would not be able to operate. You can become a member of send a donation via the on-line Virtual Shop (the shop also gives details of how to join by mail, phone or fax).

We exist to protect mothers and their babies regardless of the feeding method used. We are not anti-baby milk, but believe its properties and the need for it are over-stated.

Baby Milk Action works within a global network (the International Baby Food Action Network) for independent, transparent and effective controls on the marketing of the baby feeding industry. We aim to secure an infant's right to the highest level of health, a woman's right to informed choices about infant feeding, and the right of everyone to health care facilities free from commercial pressure.

We aim to save the lives of the 1.5 million babies who die every year because they are not breastfed.

Baby Milk Action

  • Raises awareness about the damage caused by artificial feeding. We use a range of publications, videos and display materials. We also contribute to workshops, conferences and training courses. Our network of area contacts may be able to assist in running stalls or speaking at events.
  • Campaigns against the irresponsible marketing of baby foods which encourages mothers and health workers to favour bottle feeding.
  • Helps and encourages members of the public to protest against company tactics. We coordinate the international boycott of Nestlé, the world's largest baby milk manufacturer.
  • Works in partenership with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to protect and support breastfeeding. We helped to develop the WHO/UNICEF International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes and subsequent Resolutions and sit on the advisory panel of UNICEF's Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative in the UK.
  • Lobbies the UK Government and European Union to introduce laws and regulations which protect breastfeeding and improve maternity benefits.
  • Monitors the promotion of baby foods around the world and challenges company practices. We and our partners produce regular reports on the baby food industry's violations of the International Code.
  • Publishes a regular newsletter, Update, with the latest information on all our work and news from around the world. We also publish papers on specific issues related to infant feeding.
  • Maintains a comprehensive information system on infant feeding issues.

Baby Milk Action runs for a year on the money a transnational corporation spends making one television advert.

We are funded by membership, donations and grants from non-profit organisations. We do not accept corporate funding as a matter of policy. Our independence is one of our strengths - we are able to speak the truth without fear of censure from commercial interests.
