A network of doctors and public health specialists in India has sought
government intervention to curb what it says are efforts by baby food
manufacturers to nudge paediatricians into promoting supplements to
young children.
The non-government Breastfeeding Promotion Network of India (BPNI)
last week asked the health ministry to ensure “effective implementation”
of the countryʼs 26 year old Infant Milk Substitutes Act that bans the
promotion of manufactured baby foods for children under the age of two.
