Call to Boycott the GMM meeting in Frankfurt   (Click here)

This message is to clarify IBFAN’s Call to Action regarding the upcoming meeting in Frankfurt that will, among other things, discuss a proposal for a Global Monitoring Mechanism organised by Meridian and funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF).  The meeting will most likely include members of the baby food industry.

Over 80 NGOs and individuals have now endorsed our call and we thank you for this support.  However, we have also had requests for tickets for the meeting from some individuals who want to  go along and raise our concerns.  This indicates to us that perhaps our message was not clear enough.

We would like to reassure everyone that IBFAN has made our concerns about the initiative clear to Meridian and the BMGF representatives and  feel sure that they understand why we think the proposal is a bad and dangerous idea and why we have decided not to attend.

We worry that there is a risk that those who do decide to attend will be viewed as supporting the process.  For this reason  we are urging those who may have received an invitation not to go along.

Thanks to all for your understanding.   If you do know anyone who has received an invitation please do share this message with them.

In the meantime if you would like to endorse our call please send a message to alessia.bigi@gifa.org
